Leaving Oslo

Welcome to the wonderful world of Atypical Carolness! It’s a topsy-turvy kind of week wherein Carol indulges in a bevy of atypical behaviors. For starters, I’m on the water. I’m in a big ship on the Baltic Sea. Earth-bound Carol at sea.

Secondly, I just spent a heap of money on a spa treatment and shore excursions. Well, to be honest, the shore excursion was necessary in St. Petersburg if I want to leave the ship. The one I bought for Helsinki is purely for adventure. More on that later. And the spa treatments? Well, I’ve simply never had one before and, if I’m to remain consistently atypical, then I may as well go all the way, right?

The Oslo Adventure was financially minimal in impact as we only shelled out money for a hotel room and one lunch. The people from Oslo even admitted that it’s ridiculously prohibitive to live here as everything is quite dear. This was corroborated by a couple who live in Los Angeles and Manhattan. The Thon Hotel Astoria had the most amazing breakfast spread. I had my first pickled herring, some herring done up like eggplant parmesan without the cheese, caviar from a tube, and a caramel flavored goat cheese – and – that amazing drinking yogurt that can’t be found anywhere save Europe. Plus, we also returned to the Nespresso shop for another complimentary coffee. Score!

Here are some last pictures from the breakfast buffet and Oslo.
